The Sound of One Hand Clapping

Why, Sir, most schemes of political improvement are very laughable things.
Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784), lexicographer and writer

The Republicans want a gold star for doing what should have been done in the beginning – not lowering the ethics standards they created for use against Democrats. Majority Leader, Representative Tom DeLay is being hailed as a leader and someone who would take a bullet for the team, according to Representative Mark Steven Kirk, Illinois Republican.

Oh, please. That is akin to saying to the person who starts a campfire in enemy territory, and then puts it out after the enemy spots it, is a leader. A leader is someone who inspires others to follow him/her through their actions.

There was nothing altruistic about the Republicans voting against lowering ethical standards; they don’t care about ethical standards. This was a blatant case of CYA to avoid a political issue in the mid-term elections.

We are looking forward to Texas District Attorney Ronnie Earle, 62, who has been serving the public for 27 years, completing his investigation.
